Standards-compliant
GeoMedia Catalog makes it easy for anyone to create, manage, and publish
multi-standard-compliant metadata.
GeoMedia Catalog provides for export of metadata records compliant with
the ISO-19139 technical specification.
Spatial Data Association - GeoMedia Catalog ties spatial data and
metadata catalog entries together by using Intergraph’s GeoMedia 6.0 technology
to associate a GeoMedia Catalog metadata record with the actual GIS feature
class or image that it describes.
Automated Metadata Capture - Once a Catalog record has associated
with a GIS feature class or image, metadata elements such as bounding
coordinates, point and vector object counts, native data environment,
and entity/attributes can be extracted directly from the GIS data into
standard metadata content elements.
The GeoMedia Catalog Explorer - The Catalog Explorer bridges the
gap between spatial data and metadata and provides a new level of access
to GIS data library. The Catalog Explorer provides viewing GeoMedia Catalog
metadata side by side with the geospatial data that it describes, opening
GeoMedia Catalog records using a Windows-style tree view, and quickly
locating metadata records using a powerful yet simple search interface.
Advanced Searching - The Catalog Explorer enables to search for
metadata by using keywords, attributes, time-period of the data layer,
and extent of the data layer.
User-defined Fields - With GeoMedia Catalog, there is no limit
for using only those fields defined by the ISO or other standards. User-defined
fields provides the ability to create custom metadata profiles to ensure
accurate and adequate documentation for GIS data holdings.
Publish Browse Graphics to the Web in HTML reports. GeoMedia Catalog
uses GeoMedia 6.0 technology to automatically generate browse graphics
of GIS data layers in order to enhance GeoMedia Catalog metadata reports.
Context-sensitive Help - Quickly retrieve the standards definition
for each metadata field.
Enterprise Access - Provide multi-user access to GeoMedia Catalog
metadata repository through multiple GeoMedia Catalog clients using an
SQL-2000 Server or Oracle database (in addition to GeoMedia
Catalog's default Microsoft Access database). MS-SQL or Oracle software
is required, but scripts for creating GeoMedia Catalog database in either
environment are provided as part of GeoMedia Catalog.
Data Reuse
Contacts, citations, and distribution methods are stored as shared database
records that can be referenced by any metadata record in the GeoMedia
Catalog database. User can create or modify the information one time and
that information can be used in any other metadata record in the database.
Metadata contents that are already stored in GeoMedia Catalog can be reused
to create new records.
Reusable Keyword Lists - GeoMedia Catalog provides creating
keyword thesauruses with a list of keywords to help ensure accuracy and
consistency of keyword use. Importing existing lists and sharing them
with other GeoMedia Catalog users using the simple XML import/export feature
is also provided.
Import and Export - GeoMedia Catalog provides loading any FGDC-compliant
metadata record from ASCII text or FGDC-standard XML into GeoMedia Catalog,
and sharing GeoMedia Catalog metadata records with other metadata software
users by exporting FGDC-standard interoperable metadata in ASCII text
or XML format.
Metadata Publishing - Output-attractive, Web-ready metadata reports
to distribute with data via the Internet, clearinghouses, or CDs. Publishing
in TXT, HTML, FGDC-standard XML, or the new ISO19139-standard XML publishing
formats with displaying stylesheets (XSL files) that can be customized
to meet the needs of the enterprise.
Biological Profile - Documenting biological data holdings following
the NBII Biological Data Profile for metadata. This standard supports
increased access to and use of biological data among users on a national
(and international) basis. It also helps to broaden the understanding
and implementation of the FGDC metadata content standard within the biological
resources community.
GeoMedia Menu - Launching GeoMedia Catalog commands directly from
the GeoMedia menu bar.
Spatial Search
Loading the spatial extent of GeoMedia map window directly into Catalog
Explorer as parameters for searching GeoMedia Catalog metadata repository.
Sending Data to GeoMedia map window.
Using Catalog Explorer to find a dataset for GeoMedia analysis and adding
it directly to GeoMedia map window.
Using Catalog Explorer to search for datasets using keywords, attributes,
file types, time period, or spatial extent as criteria, and automatically
loading search results to GeoMedia map window.
